A new collaborative effort between Saudi Arabia’s aid organization, KSrelief, and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office aims to enhance food security in Yemen with a $10 million initiative. This partnership focuses on supporting communities in need and enhancing their ability to withstand future challenges.
Both KSrelief and the UK are contributing $5 million each to this project, which will be executed by the United Nations World Food Programme. The initiative is set to target the Yemeni governorates of Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij, providing crucial aid where it’s most needed.
The food security project is designed to facilitate conditional cash transfers, thus improving food access for vulnerable families. It will also work on restoring essential infrastructure and aims to help these communities gradually move from relying on emergency food aid to becoming more self-sufficient. This approach not only addresses immediate food needs but also lays the groundwork for long-term resilience.
Additional components of the project include vocational training and support for local authorities, which are crucial for improving governance. These efforts are expected to aid in the sustainable management of community resources, ensuring that the benefits of the project extend well beyond its initial implementation.
This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s expanded humanitarian outreach through KSrelief, which has launched over 4,400 aid projects across 113 countries since 2015, with a combined value exceeding $8.5 billion. Through such programs, Saudi Arabia continues to play a significant role in addressing global humanitarian challenges.
